Soccer Nutrition- Eat Your Way To The Top

by Steve Miles

For someone who is not familiar with soccer, the importance of soccer nutrition might be regarded as a small trivial piece of detail to the whole soccer picture. When it comes to soccer nutrition, there are strong similarities between soccer players’ and long-distance endurance athletes’ nutritional needs.

Soccer involves rapid sprints and eruptions of energy where marathon running is continuous running with moderate intensity. The comparison is not all that far fetched if you keep in mind that soccer players run for a total of about 11 kilometers at a reasonable speed throughout the match and sprint for about 1 kilometer. They accelerate their tempo more or less 50 times and change direction at an average of every five seconds.

Your diet as a soccer player is very important, more so if you want to obtain the best results. Various nutritional components such as macronutrients, micronutrients, proteins, fats and fluids will determine the performance you can expect.

In general, the nutritional needs of soccer players are misjudged carelessly. An active soccer player requires close on 2500 carbohydrate calories per day. Shockingly without proper guidance, the majority take in only 1300 calories per day. Apart from water, carbohydrates are the most important nutrients in the diet of a soccer player’s diet.

Glycogen is produced from the carbohydrates that you take in from food such as milk, bread, pasta, bananas and apples. Glycogen is the main energy source to your muscles. So in order to deliver a star performance you need to have sufficient glycogen. A lack thereof will result in negative aspects such as fatigue, poor concentration and regaining strength after practice or a match take longer than it use to.

By playing soccer, you burn a lot of calories. When it comes to fat in your diet, you should still try to keep your fat intake to the minimum because fat is not a good provider of energy. As for protein you need to eat about 1,4 to 1,7 grams of protein for every kilogram of body mass per day. Protein is essential to repair your muscles and to assist in the maintenance of your immune system. Protein such as milk, cheese, chicken and fish is good to nourish your body before practice or a match, however it will not provide you with the same energy that you would have get from carbohydrates.

Water is vital to keep the body hydrated. It is highly recommended that small rations of water are consumed during practices and matches and more so in hot weather. It is commonly known that sports drinks manufacturers claim that this beverage will assist you in obtaining the desired performance. The only part of that which is true is that it contains carbohydrates that your body takes up faster than other more complex carbohydrates. This result in a rise in your hypoglycaemic levels making you feels more energetic for a short period. Using sports drinks to substitute a meal before a match is strongly discouraged and should be used as an absolute last resort.

It is advisable to consume in the region of 700 carbohydrates not less than 3 hours before playing a match and shortly after the game and in addition consume as much fluids as possible. This will help your body to replenish itself at the soonest.

How to Create a Standalone Chart in Microsoft Excel 2007

by Mark Matthews

To create a chart in Microsoft Excel 2007, begin by selecting the data that you wish to plot including any headings. You then have the choice of creating either a stand-alone chart or an embedded chart. To create a stand-alone chart, simply right-click on one of your worksheet tabs and choose Insert. Next, click on the chart icon and click OK. Excel creates a chart using the default chart type.

Having just created a chart, you will notice that Excel displays three contextual tabs headed “Chart Tools”. The contextual tabs consist of Design, Layout and Format. The Design contextual tab enables you to change the chart type and the basic information about the chart such as the underlying data.

The Layout tab offers you a more intricate level of control over the various elements within your chart. For example, by default, Excel adds a legend to each new chart. If a chart has only one series of data, we don’t need a legend to tell us what the chart colours mean. We can therefore click on the Legend drop-down menu and choose None.

The Format contextual tab gives us the most primitive control over the chart elements. It is here that we are able to click on individual elements and change them at the object level. In other words, we are working on these elements purely as drawing objects rather than as elements of the chart. However, even at this primitive level, Excel still shows us the relationship between the chart elements and the underlying data. Thus, for example, when an individual data point is highlighted, Excel displays the corresponding worksheet address in the formula bar.

When creating standalone charts, you are not given the option of choosing the chart type during the chart creation process. If you want to change the chart type, you must do so at a later stage by choosing a Chart Type option in the Design contextual menu.

As regards the chart sheet which contains the chart, it behaves in much the same way as Excel worksheets. For example, it can be renamed or deleted by right-clicking the sheet tab and choosing Rename or Delete from the context menu.

Traveling with Dogs

by Anya Dee

Although its April, the weather in Chicago has been cold! In fact, we had snow yesterday. Good thing that I have a dog who couldn’t be bothered with the temperature. Snow, rain, winds, Janey loves to go out. Like a good owner, I bought a few extra-warm sweaters and a good fleece jacket and we’re off! One thing I love to do with my dog is go on road trips. Here are a few things to be aware of when you’re planning on traveling with your dog.

My old way of traveling was to wait until the night before a trip and grab whatever I can, hoping to remember what to bring. The next time, I will have a plan to stick to prior to leaving. I am starting my planning about a month before the trip.

Be sure to have an ID tag for your dog. Make sure it includes your dogs name, your name, and contact information. You may also want to put your vets number on the tag. I like having a secondary phone number just in case.

Get a first aid kit for your pet. You don’t know what you may encounter when traveling. Especially when you stop frequently and let your pet relieve himself in high grass. He could pick up a tick or get scratched. Be sure to have something to handle minor injuries.

You may want to visit a vet prior to leaving. Ask about special vaccines. I focus on Lyme’s disease vaccinations because we spend a lot of time outside in the wild. Heartworm prevention medication is a necessity too because where there is still water, there are mosqitos. If you’re going to stay in a hotel, consider getting some flea protection also, as a courtesy to the establishment.

Be sure to bring an air-tight container with your dog’s food. You don’t want to have to switch foods while traveling because your brand isn’t available. Pack bowls and paper towels. A good rule is to bring a few gallons of water for the road. If you let your dog out on the way, you can be sure to have water for your animal. Put together your dog’s necessities such as the collar, leash, brus, toys, towels, plastic bags for clean up and medicines. An old blanket can serve as a resting spot for your dog if you go camping.

Know what you’re going to do about meals while traveling. You could eat fast-food, or you could just bring a big cooler and plenty of ice. I like the later. That way I can find a picnic table and everyone can eat together outside, weather permitting. With a dog, depending on the age, plan on stopping every 4 hours to let the dog stretch, get some water, and relieve himself.

** According to the ASPCA, on a warm day the inside of your vehicle can heat up to 160 in minutes? NEVER leave a pet in a car, even with the windows open, in warm weather! **

There are great places in the US to explore during summer with your dog. State parks and camp grounds are a favorite of mine. With a little planning, you should be able to have a great vacation and bring your dog with!

Make money online with pay per click marketing

by Collin De Ruyck

Learning how to properly set up a pay per click campaign in affiliate marketing is not as easy as one would think it is. Having some one to teach you how to do it, and make money at it is far better then going through he usual trial and error routine. Why lose money if you don’t have to right?

After a year of not making much at all online I decided to join the PPC Coach program, and I am glad I did. Not only have I learned to set up campaigns properly but I am also now making $4400.00 per month profit too. That’s not a lot for PPC marketing – buts enough to allow me to stay at home full time.

Most PPC’ers would say that making 4400 a month is very low in this industry, but 4k a month profit is enough to allow me to stay at hoe full time and keep working on growing my business.

The forums community I would have to say is the heart and soul of the program. This is where you can ask for advice from other members about how your landing pages look and what improvements you may need to make.

Out of all the ventures I have gone through online, joining PPC Coach is by far the best thing I have done to date.

Basic Concepts in Microsoft Access 2007

by Andrew Whiteman

Tables

A table is the container used by Microsoft Access to store information. Each Access table resembles an Excel worksheet and consists of rows and columns. In a really simple database, only one table may be required but, more typically, a database will contain several related tables. For databases to work efficiently, each table should store only one type of information. For example, in a typical database, you might have one table for storing client information, another for storing information about products, and so forth.

Fields (Columns)

Each column in a table is referred to as a field. When designing tables, it is important to define a field for each piece of information you will need to store and not to lump separate pieces of information together in a single column. As a general rule, having more fields gives you more flexibility in data retrieval. Thus, for example, if you define three fields called “Title”, “FirstName” and “LastName” rather than a single field called “Name”, you will be able to combine them either to form a salutation or a full name.

Records (Rows)

Each row in a table is called a record. A record represents a single piece of information on a given topic. Thus, if the table holds student grades, each record will constitute the grade achieved by a particular student in a particular exam. In a client table, each record will contain details about an individual client, and so forth.

Primary Key Fields

In order for the information stored in a database to be useful and accurate, it is important to avoid duplication of information since this will tend to increase the occurrence of errors. Each record in a database should be uniquely identifiable. Thus, for example, if we have a table containing student information and there are two students with the name “John Smith” living at the same address, we need to be able to distinguish between them. The recommended technique is to define a field within each table which will always contain a unique value. This field is often called the primary key. So, in our student table example, we would create a “StudentID” field and assign each student a unique student ID. When designing tables in Microsoft Access, the unique value is usually achieved by setting the field type to “AutoNumber”, enabling Access to automatically generate a unique value for each new record created in the table.

Relationships

Although the information within a database is held in separate tables, the complete system which this information represents is a unified whole and there are associations between the information in all the various tables. Microsoft Access is called a relational database management system because it allows users to create relationships between the various tables. Relationships lend efficiency to databases by preventing the creation of redundant data. For example, in a client database, the table containing client information would be related to the table(s) holding client invoices. When creating the invoice, information from all the related tables can therefore be included.

Kids Soccer, Having Fun Is The Rule

by Steve Miles

Importance of coach- The most important facet of kids soccer is not the quality players but rather the quality coach. The children are still open to skills development and game perfection. However a coach is already formed with either good or bad coaching techniques, with possibility of little or no teaching of new tricks to old dog.

Fun- The main reason children sign up for soccer is to develop their interest in the games but more importantly to have fun. Without proper time on the field the kids’ skills will not be developed and no fun will be had. Every player should get approximately 50% time to play in a soccer game, thus rotation is very important. The rotation should be based not on a players ability to play wonderfully but instead on his or her motivation and attitude.

Expenses- Playing kids soccer should not be an expensive exercise for parents. Professional trainer hiring is a big no-no. During these hard economic times it is impossible for mum or dad to pay extra US$100 just to keep his or her child in the game. Professional training does not always mean better. Usually these coaches take the fun out of the game and promote competitiveness instead of team and friend building.

Suitability- You can start your childs’ kids soccer training as early as 5 years of age. The sport is suitable for both girls and boys. Soccer is a medium safe sport as there is low contact. To be successful with the game the child should have traits including good vision, be team player, top aerobic fitness and top ball skills.

Discipline- Discipline is key to your teams success. Disciplined teams perform better on and off the field, making the overall experience much more enjoyable. The concept of discipline is one of the greatest challenges for new coaches.

Camping- Kids camps are ideal for development and socialisation with children with the same ideas and love of the game. However exercise caution in choosing your childs’ camp. Safety is essential as well as separate of children of different ages. Mixed camps are generally a disaster as there is no age appropriate programmes applied. Safety is also not of the highest importance during these mixed camps. Different ages require different supervision.

Basic rules- There are some very basic soccer rules you as parent and your child should know. There are 11 players on the field including one goalkeeper. They are the only players allowed to touch the ball with arms and hands when ball is in their penalty area. The field is rectangular in shape and 90-120×45-90 metres. A goal is awarded when a player gets ball past goalkeeper in net. Every goal is one point.

Sideline coaching- If you are a parent reading this, pay very special attention- steer clear from sideline coaching. Whatever you are screaming from the side of the field is most probably in contract with the game plan or strategy of the coach. This will just confuse the child. Respect the coach and the children will respect him or her. If you act disrespectfully towards the coach the children will just follow your action as you are the most important example in their lives.

Looping With The For-each Element In XSLT

by Alan Spencer

Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) is a technology closely related to XML which is used to transform XML data. XML file are used to set out the ground-rules for a given body of data and to describe the data itself. XSL allows us to take the original XML data and convert it into information which can be displayed in a web browser window or opened with a text editor. XSL can also be used to create an XML file which is a modified version of an original XML file.

When displaying elements in a browser window, the XSL elements which enable looping through an XML tree and decision-making really come into their own. One of the key methods used in XSL for looping through XML elements is the “For-each” element. This uses the “select” attribute to specify which element is to be targeted in the loop. The “For-each” element has both an opening and a closing tag and any lines of code placed between the opening and closing tags will be repeated each time the element specified in the “select” attribute is encountered in the XML file.

For example, let’s say we have an input XML file containing a list of companies and the addresses of their websites. Let’s also say that the element which we will be targeting in the XSL “For-each” statement is called “company” and that, for each company element, we have a “name”, “telephone” and “website” element. Before beginning our “For-each” loop, we could output the opening tag of an HTML “ul” element (an unordered or bulleted list).

Inside the “For-each” loop, we could then output an HTML “li” element and, between the opening and closing “li” tags, output the contents of the “name” and “telephone” elements from the XML file. The data in the “website” could then be used to convert the “name” into a clickable link.

As for the appearance of the data in the resulting HTML output, this would be controlled by a linked CSS file. CSS can be used to format the output in any way we like, so our bulleted list can take on pretty much any appearance we desire.
