How Are Cartoon Animations Produced - 3D Animation

by Cody Landon

Almost anybody loves cartoons. They are so popular that you’ll frequently see cartoon characters in a variety of advertisements. Saturday mornings used to be popular for cartoons. In todays age they’ve pretty much been replaced with video games, but then even those characters are animated. In addition, the majority of animated box office hits are currently all in 3D animation.

You might be intrigued enough by animation that you desire to know much more about it. It has its complexities and its by no means a simplex job. To put it in uncomplicated terms, it is a group of drawings that an artist has created then they are put into frames, which are then projected very quickly to denote movement. It should be kept in mind though that animation is not simply limited to cartoons.

There’re numerous fazes to developing a great cartoon. Firstly, the idea has to be borne. An artist or cartoonist is this case will dream up a character then draw it. Then it goes to the pc for animation. The animator would apply several soft-ware to take the character through some stages, which’ll bring it to life, then it must go through procedures where it can be developed and put out to the viewer.

There is a certain amount of talent necessary for this job. There got to be artistic talent where the artist has learned the basics. Even though the comp will do much of the work, the operator must tell it what to do, and then be able to judge whether the computer has done it right. In addition to this, the animator got to have a complete understanding of the several programs available and how they operate.

Cartoons must have a purpose or a story line. Its the interest in the plot enhanced by the characters that make it productive. They got to be fun and light hearted as this’s what attracts individuals to them. It makes them laugh. Voiceovers in todays media are fundamental. In the case of big productions popular actors and actresses will be retained to do them. It brings creditability to the story and reckoning on how popular they are frequently serves as an attraction.

Cartoon animation has predominantly been dome in 2D and 3D formats. 2D was the forerunner and with the introduction of computers, it was not long before it progressed into 3D. They both play a major role in the industry. 3D has not replaced 2D, but it has enhanced it. The comp could be utilized for both types of formats and there is soft-ware that provides the capabilities to do this. The soft-ware is only the tool that the animator operates with, as we discuss earlier that there still has to be a well-trained user to execute it. The world of animation is no doubt going to advance and continually get better as pcs and software continue to excel in their technology.

311 Music - A Music Review

by Steve Stevenson

Despite going through some tough times before they entered the music scene, 311 has managed to keep their heads focused on creating good music. Despite having troubles with their band line up and their struggle against poverty, they were able to see through and come out with great music.

All of their eight albums ranged from alternative to rap to funk to reggae to heavy metal. The success of their albums can be highly attributed to their extensive touring all over the US and other countries to promote their songs.

The band released their first album in 1993. Even though Music was released more than a decade ago, it still commands attention because of its quality. It’s single Do You Right got decent airplay and even reached the 27th spot on the Billboard Modern Rock Charts, though it did not propel the album to sell as much as it should.

This is where one can be confused with identifying a successful song, or album for that matter. Usually, we only say a song or record is successful when it is topping the charts and selling like pancakes. When an album reaches a gold or platinum status, then it is considered a success, or when the record brings nods and recognition from different award giving bodies.

What we don’t realize is that success of a record is relative. A record doesn’t have to top the charts consistently to be called successful. Personally, success of a record has much to do if people think the content is good for listening. 311’s Music is very nice to listen to.

This album is a compilation of all their earlier LPs. Songs in this album such as Do You Right, Feels So Good, and Fat Chance have been widely popular. These songs are amazing, and so is the album as a whole. These songs are played widely in the band’s shows and almost always bring the house down.

When you listen to the album, you will notice a mix of relaxing tunes and upbeat, loud songs that will definitely make you groove and even bang your head a bit. Nix Hex can really make some great loud music. The songs album will definitely not disappoint. You don’t have to be the rock-type of person to appreciate what 311 has to offer. Their playlist will really impress you. The band was able to combine excellent tunes to great lyrics. Chad Sexton will leave you in awe with his percussion skills while Tim Mahoney plays his guitar like no one can. And of course, SA Martinez will groove you with his rhymes.

You can go for months with nothing on your CD players but Music. 311 was able to come out with a great sounding record and managed to captivate their hardcore fans. This just goes to show that you don’t really have to be the hottest thing in the industry right now. All you need is a team of talented musicians to come up with a great-sounding record.

Lost Parody

by Kunal Wadhwani

As If the award winning show Lost wasn’t enough to enthrall and excite the viewers, Fine Brothers i.e. Ben Fine and Rafi Fine came up with a brilliant spoof on the show as Lost Parody wherein they mock and snap at the actors/characters from the original show.

The characters, the episodes, the plot and the concept or rather everything about it is appealing to the audience. As if to say that “Are you satisfied, because we are nothere’s something more for you” the Fine brothers came up with another card up their sleeve. They brought about a spoof of a lifetime to enthrall the audiences further. Lost Parody is a spoof of the show where the actors mock at the original characters from the show.

When it was started it was called “Lost: What Will Happen Next”, but with the constant increase in its popularity, it came to be endearingly known as Lost Parody and the Fine Brothers are not in the least sorry for it, because their ultimate aim of delighting the viewers is achieved.

So what if a few concepts of Lost and the techniques of production are ripped off in the process?? Everything is fair unless copyright and other IPR issues are involved, which doesn’t seem to be happening. In fact, ABC is so inspired (read: envious) of the success of Parody on Lost, that it came up with an in house spoof on the same by the name of Lost: Untangled which did amuse the fans but not upto the level of Parody on Lost.

Owing to its huge success tons of websites have been created to satisfy the curiosity of new audiences and its loyal fans. According to surveys the most popular and the most visited website for the Lost series is www.lost-tv-show.com.

You simply can’t imagine the confusion that ensued when Captain Jack Sparrow (yeah, The POC fame) landed on the mysterious island of Lost and shared it with our very own Dr. Jack Shepherd, the protagonist in this mysterious tale combining past, present and future.

The sixth season is expected to come in 2010 and the audiences and fans are waiting alike for it to start. The audiences are waiting for the Lost Parody for the next season too, I am sure.

A Look At The Modern 3D Animation Industry

by Cody Landon

Here’s a term that has not been heard of too frequently, Phenadistoscope. Say youre familiar with it then you might be giving away your age. Actually, this is the technique used to give the animation effects. It was a matter of simple drawings that were made to move simultaneously.

We do the similar thing today but with many more advanced methods. The standard concept is still there it’s the way that results are reached thats so dramatically different. The techniques of phenadistoscope became extinct by the end of the 21st century when a much more thrilling and innovative way to get the job done surfaced. If you haven’t guessed what thats, then its the comp. By nature, these dynamic pieces of technology are simply never-ending in what they can do.

What occurred now in the universe of animation was that the drawings can be scanned into the computer or even better produced on it. The pc has the capability of quickly displaying every of those pictures that depict movement at a truly quick rate. These’re pictures created from models of 2D or 3D artwork. They’re then put into a sequential order, which the comp takes and is able to create the illusion of movement.

The characters of animation now have taken on a awesome look of realism all thanks to the ability to view them from every angles.

The computer is successful at achieving these fantastic results by being able to perform a variety of techniques.

It is capable of making a comic book or cartoon character look as if it were drawn by hand. This’s completed by a technique knows as cel-shading. To attain the animation features of skin and facial expressions and cloth too a technique also known as morph target animation is implemented. This implies that the movements are stored as vertex positions. They in all major frame the vertex would move to a some other different position.

The works not finished yet though. There is skeletal animation that has to be comprised meaning rigging, which is a vertebrate technique. It entails the designing of bone that comprise a portion of the character to allow for visual representation.

After the above has been implemented, a procedure had to be put in place to record the movement. A great deal like those in video games, addressed as motion capture. Then another challenging aspect is also known as crowd simulation. You know those pictures where you see multitudes of people; well this is the technique that is liable for the realism of these shots.

Often people think of 3D animation as plainly relating to cartoons. They fail to realize that some other moving objects as seen on the comp for illustration are animation as well. Perhaps youve viewed the beating heart on a medical site, or seen a 3d plan on a decorating internet show. What you’re seeing by way of the presentation is all due to the stunning capabilities of the 3D animation. Therefore, as you could see this technology goes far beyond the use of just entertainment. It has a place in numerous different industries.

The plot of the film is interesting enough to make the watcher expect much from the film. Timing is very essential to comedies but this film lacks it entirely. There are some scenes which evoke laughter but they are few and far between.

The performances by the lead actors are satisfactory though a lot more can be expected of them. Kevin James tries his best to add some energy to the sagging movie but is not fully successful at it. Jayma Mays does justice to whatever little role that has been offered to her. The director Steve Carr does a decent job with the screenplay but the script pulls down any good work done by him. The writers Kevin James and Nick Bakay could have done a better job though they seem to have made good use of the interesting main plot.

Imperial Kilns Start In Jingdezhen, China

by David Cheng

Easily the Porcelain Capital of the World, Jingdezhen, China is a tiny town that has been producing some of the finest Chinese porcelain works ever seen. The items made here are so revered, in fact, a large number of them were made exclusively for the emperors and royal family members throughout China’s history.

This lesser-known history of making imperial porcelain finally set the town up to produce some of the most refined porcelain we celebrate to this day. And it is surely a history every fan of Jingdezhen porcelain should know.

The first royal kiln in Jingdezhen was in fact founded by a Mongol. The Mongol leader Kublai Khan ordered the first kiln in 1278. He found the porcelain made there had a while color unlike that found in any other kind of porcelain. It was white as snow.

After its founding, dynasty after dynasty continued to operate royals kilns in Jingdezhen. A huge number of porcelain was ordered from the small town, and at times they had trouble keeping up production.

The workload was so great, many emperors sent special envoys just to oversee the porcelain production. These envoys were trusted to send only the best pieces of porcelain to the capital.

The officials the emperor sent were also responsible for ensuring that no one else even touched the porcelain meant for the royal family. And no one else was to receive the products of the royal kilns. The only way to do this was to break all of the porcelain that would not be sent to the capital into tiny pieces. The pieces were then buried in a restricted area. Also, any potter caught revealing the secrets of the imperial kilns would be punished severely.

Making such great porcelain was never an easy task. Some emperors sent troops halfway across the world to find colors and other designs that became essential parts of royal Chinese porcelain.

As the dynasties came and went, one constant remained: the imperial porcelain kilns in Jingdezhen. The last of these kilns operated right up to the collapse of the last dynasty in 1911.
